Installing eTrader

Web Platform Installer installation

The easiest way to install eTrader is using the Web Platform Installer (Web PI). Web PI is supported by Windows XP (SP2) and later versions of the Windows operating system. A Web PI-enabled application can be discovered by users using the Microsoft Web App Gallery and many web control panels for the Windows platform. Web PI simplifies the application installation process so that it can be carried out with minimal technical knowledge.

To install eTrader using Web PI, follow the steps below:

  • Download and install Web PI (as required)
  • Download an eTrader deployment package
  • Launch IIS Manager (Start -> All Programs -> Administrative Tools -> IIS Manager
  • Right-click on Default Website in the Connections explorer
  • Select the Deploy -> Import Application ... option from the pop-up menu
  • Select the eTrader deployment package that you downloaded
  • Follow the wizard steps

You will need the following information to complete the wizard:

  • Database Server Name (eg. a SQL Server Express file, the name of a local SQL Server instance, or the domain name or IP address of a remote SQL Server)
  • Database name
  • Database application user name and password
  • Database administrator user name and password
  • Culture identifier for this installation (eg. "en-GB", "es-ES")

On completing the wizard, Web PI will install any necessary dependencies for the application and will create and configure an eTrader web site and database.

Manual installation

The eTrader web application can also be extracted from the Web PI deployment package and installed manually. Follow the steps below:

  • Download an eTrader deployment package
  • Unzip the package zip file
  • In IIS Manager, create and configure a web site or web application for eTrader
  • Copy the contents of the Web folder in the deployment package to the directory of the web application you created
  • Create a SQL Server database for the application
  • Create a SQL login for the application and grant it access to the database
  • Edit the connection string in web.config with the details of your database
  • In a web browser, navigate to the eTrader web site

Etrader will automatically configure the schema of the database the first time it is run.
