Hi Paul, we have seen a couple of instances where this has appeared and is effectly stopping the page which the module is on from being rendered. The version of Dotcom.Modules.LicenceMaster.Client.dll is 1.0.9

InnerException: Unable to connect to the remote server
FileName:
FileLineNumber: 0
FileColumnNumber: 0
Method: System.Net.Sockets.Socket.DoConnect
StackTrace:
Message: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it X.X.X.X:80 at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.DoConnect(EndPoint endPointSnapshot, SocketAddress socketAddress) at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.InternalConnect(EndPoint remoteEP) at System.Net.ServicePoint.ConnectSocketInternal(Boolean connectFailure, Socket s4, Socket s6, Socket& socket, IPAddress& address, ConnectSocketState state, IAsyncResult asyncResult, Int32 timeout, Exception& exception) --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() at c.a(String A_0) at e..ctor(String A_0, Guid A_1) at d..ctor(String A_0, Guid A_1) at c.a(Assembly A_0, ServiceType A_1, String A_2, String A_3) at Dotcom.Modules.LicenceMaster.Client.LicensingUtility.a() at Dotcom.Modules.LicenceMaster.Client.LicensingUtility.GetApplicationDownloadUrl() at PureSystems.Modules.psSiteSearch.LicenceMasterClientModuleBase.ApplicationPurchaseURL() at PureSystems.Modules.psSiteSearch.LicenceMasterClientModuleBase.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.AddedControl(Control control, Int32 index) at System.Web.UI.ControlCollection.Add(Control child) at DotNetNuke.UI.Modules.ModuleHost.InjectModuleContent(Control content) at DotNetNuke.UI.Modules.ModuleHost.CreateChildControls() at System.Web.UI.Control.EnsureChildControls() at DotNetNuke.UI.Modules.ModuleHost.get_ModuleControl() at DotNetNuke.UI.Containers.Container.get_ModuleControl() at DotNetNuke.UI.Containers.Container.ProcessModule() at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Pane.InjectModule(ModuleInfo objModule)

I've masked our server IP address out in the stack trace but i can confirm it's the correct address. There maybe more than one issue here and not all related to the licensing module, as i'm not sure why it's saying our server is refusing connection. But what we'd need is for the licensing module to gracefully deal with this so it doesn't stop the site from working.

Can you look into this for us?
Thanks

Dan

Hi Dan,

Licence Master v1.0.11 resolves this issue. If the licence server is not available for any reason, the LM client will treat the installed licence as valid. Please get the installer from our download page and upgrade your installation.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the update. It appears what we were seeing was an exception caused when calling lu.GetApplicationDownloadUrl() - it caused a web exception if the licence server wasn't available.

What we also found was that if the user tries to register the module with a key which isn't valid and the licence server isn't available then when the validation is called for the key check, lu.GetInstallationStatus() returns a valid response which is by design, but there would be the potential for someone to permanently block access to the licence server and the module would continue to run as being registered. Is this something your would agree with or have we not implemented it correctly?

Thanks
Dan

Accepted Answer

Hi Dan,

No the scenario you describe wouldn't work because LM only gives the application installation the OK if the licensing server is unavailable in the DNS system.

Regards,

Paul
